Prof. Dr. Patrick Noel – A career dedicated to excellence

Training and career start

Born in France, Dr. Patrick Noel began his academic career at the University of Bordeaux, where he studied medicine from 1986 to 1993. After obtaining his doctorate in medicine, he continued his training in general and digestive surgery at Montpellier University Hospital from 1993 to 2000. During this period, he gained valuable experience and expertise in general and digestive surgery, laying the foundations for his outstanding career.

Foundation of the bariatric surgery department in Marseille

In 2000, Dr. Noel founded the bariatric surgery department at the Clinique privée de Casamance in Marseille-Aubagne, which quickly became the cornerstone of bariatric surgery in France. He has performed more than 6,000 bariatric procedures (
sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass,
duodenal switch, gastric banding) and more than 1,000

revision

. These efforts have earned it the distinction of becoming the largest operator of bariatric procedures in France.

Careers in the United Arab Emirates

In 2015, Dr. Noel made the bold choice to move to the United Arab Emirates, where he introduced laparoscopic bariatric surgery. This less invasive technique offers many advantages over traditional methods, including faster recovery and fewer post-operative complications. He has worked at several renowned hospitals in the region, including American Surgecenter and Emirates Specialty Center Hospital, where he headed the bariatric and metabolic surgery department.

Scientific consultant

As a renowned scientific consultant, I am actively involved in training and knowledge sharing within prestigious institutions such as IFSO (International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders) and ATCMB (Association Tunisienne de Chirurgie Métabolique et Bariatrique).

With IFSO, the leading international organization in the field of obesity surgery, I help to draw up recommendations and guidelines. I also help organize the scientific program of the annual World Congress, offering sessions on the latest medical and surgical innovations.

On a national level, I work closely with the ATCMB to develop continuing education for practitioners. In this capacity, I was responsible for the pedagogical coordination of the first Masterclass on multidisciplinary management of obesity, to be held in September 2023. The event brought together leading Tunisian and international experts to discuss best practices in obesity surgery, nutrition and psychology.

Thanks to my recognized expertise and my extensive network within world-renowned learned societies such as the IFSO, I’m able to put my experience to good use in disseminating medical knowledge. My aim is to play an active part in the progress of research and innovative techniques, in order to improve the quality of care offered to patients suffering from obesity or metabolic diseases.

Innovation and contributions to medicine

The Dr. Noel is not only an accomplished surgeon; he’s also an innovator. He has developed new surgical techniques that have improved quality of life for many patients. His work has been recognized by his peers and he has been invited to present his research at international conferences and symposia. A notable example of its innovation is the development and launch of the

BariClip

. The BariClip is a minimally invasive bariatric procedure designed to help patients achieve significant weight loss, potentially revolutionizing the field of bariatric medicine. The Dr. Noel became the first surgeon to introduce this technology to the Middle East and Europe. He has also been actively involved in training surgeons for various bariatric procedures. It began over 12 years ago in France with various workshops on managing complications in bariatric surgery and revision surgery.

In 2015, Dr. Patrick Noel left France to practice in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region, focusing on a holistic approach to the treatment of obesity while continuing to organize workshops to present his experience in bariatric surgery.
